Christmas Season

Its December 18th 2009 and we are in the office all thinking, when will 5:00pm reach. Yeah, because we are closing office for christmas up until 4th January. How cool is that. My boss can be quite reasonable :-) oh my gosh, and we just got some serious bonus … excitement.

Anyhow everyone is lazed up, sleepy and looking foward to not coming to work as we discuss how Christmas was Christmas in the 90’s. Like you would actually know its Christmas from December 1st.

The advertisments : Such as the coco cola christmas track and train. The advert was on every 5minutes and the decorations on fast food shops and any available window…lol

The movie line up : It had christmas cartoons and movies marathon, like 24hrs. Oh, how I miss those days.

This was the movie marathon with various christmas cartoons lined up. This kept me in the house and so glued to the T.V.

There is no christmas without the home alone … that was just not practical. Need to get it on DVD now that I had the movies in tapes … hehe. If theres any kid who hasn’t watched home alone #somethingsquitewrong.

“How The Grinch Stole Christmas” — Was also always been on the line up. The Grinch was ugly and really hated Christmas,  so he tried to take it away and prevent the rest from celebrating. I know people who hate this season, maybe now we’ve found a nickname.

Disney movies just got the better part of me, used to makes me want to go to Disney land, even now as a grown up. It just depicts happiness. Kept me glued to the screen all day.

This was my most favourite T.V classic both the movie and the animation. Once it starts it has to finish and I used to sing through their songs like theres no tomorrow. I loved and still do love it. I hope it comes on this year-round.

The Christmas carols

“Jingle Bells” Looney toons – sing along — i <3

Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

A day or two ago
I thought I’d take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh yeah

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

“The Christmas Song” - Nat King Cole

Co-written by singer Mel Torme, “The Christmas Song” became one of the defining performances of the career of Nat King Cole. He recorded the song at least 3 times of which the 1961 recording is often considered the best. Sometimes the song is referred to as “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire” from the lyrics in the song’s first line.

“Jingle Bell Rock” – Billy Idol(2006)

“Jingle Bell Rock” was first released by Bobby Helms in 1957. It became a hit and has become a Christmas standard. Billy Idol recorded a version for his 2006 album Happy Holidays.

“Have yourself a very merry christmas” – Judy Garland (1944)

This song was introduced by Judy Garland in a poignant moment in the 1944 movie musical Meet Me In St. Louis. The filmmakers complained that the first version of the song’s lyrics was too depressing and commissioned a rewrite that became the most popular interpretation.

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer” – NSYNC

The story of Rudolph, Santa’s 9th reindeer, was created by Montgomery Ward employee Robert L. May in 1939. The story was adapted into song and turned into a hit by Gene Autry in 1949. Boy band NSYNC turned in their own jovial version in the late 1990’s.

This was my best of all times.

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him.
you would even say it glows.

All of the other reindeer
used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolph
join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
“Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?”

Then all the reindeer loved him
as they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
you’ll go down in history!

“O Holy Night” – Celine Dion (1998)

“O Holy Night,” composed in 1847, has become a favorite carol for solo vocal performances. Celine Dion applied the huge sound of her voice to the classic song on the 1998 collection These Are Special Times.

This reminds me of christmas eve..this song is a must.

The christmas cards: Everyone gives you a christmas card even if you don’t know them…hehe its like they are in free distribution.

New clothes: Every christmas, my mum got me and my sister new clothes, even now at 22 she’s getting me clothes..hehe its a tradition. I think it’ll just stick.

Christmas parties: I think only our family doesn’t have christmas parties. Every other family I know always has something going on. If not travelling somewhere they are partying somewhere…serious food and drinks. Us guys literally jus chill. But when I get my family that is so changing.. I shall start the travelling and partying tradition.

Everyone is so generous during christmas. As in terms of spending, loving, caring. It’s just so amazing. It’s great Christ was born because everyone’s heart is just softened. That’s such a blessing. My friend Bobo already got me a christmas card and present…best bangles ever and they’ve stuck to my wrist now. Love you babe. Thanks a lot.

It’s a month of sharing, praying, giving, loving, receiving and PARTYING & Making MERRY. It’s such a blessing. Celebrate LOVE, LIFE & LIVING. GOD BLESS YOU ALL & HAPPY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU.

Public Transport in Kenya

I have always been in a third world country born and bred… but at least I know our public transport sucks (tongue out :p ) totally. Like we’ve got minivans we call ‘matatus’…I really hate them but I have no choice because i don’t have enough ‘000 to buy myself a car so I have to go through the torture of boarding one everyday :(

My wish on our Kenyan public transport:

  1. A bus fare pricing body : Like a union that controls the bus fares. Because they just hike up when spited by something as small as drizzling or signs of rain. The prices all of a sudden get to double because it’s the rush hour when people are leaving work.
  2. Regulated music or just no music in the matatu : Honestly I hate it when they play loud music..makes you feel like your ear drums are bursting out. And half the time you can barely hear the music.
  3. Less portholed roads with reflectors and marked where necessary : If only the government could make sure that all the roads are smooth and marked clearly, also that there are reflectors so that the driver can see well at night.
  4. Less traffic jam : I don’t really know what they can do to curb this maybe the roads should be widened with more lanes… then make sure the public transport is on point and more people could leave their cars at home, hence less traffic. I hate the fact that we live 15 minutes or less away from town but it will take you 45 minutes to reach town thanks to traffic.
  5. The rickety mataus should just be gotten rid off..especially the ones that have some seriously toxic black exhaust gas with no safety belts and have disjointed parts…freaky.
  6. Our railway tracks and trains should be seriously worked on..its abit embarrassing — maybe the should start thinking electric..hehe I wish!
  7. The public transport drivers and conductors should attend etiquette classes and more strict driving classes… because they are like hungry monsters when driving.
  8. The police should just should be lenient, strict but not unfair when handling the above especially when they are on the right because it now makes the good drivers and conductors be bad and the nad ones be worse… It’s usually a cat and mouse game for cops vs drivers.
  9. They should have some serious rules and regulations that govern the public transport body and there should be people who have been given the responsiblity to enlighten the drivers and conductors and maybe the traffic police on them.
  10. Traffic Rules 101::: people need to be taught how to follow the traffic lights i.e Red is STOP, Amber is WAIT and Green is Go… as simple as that. That would make much of a difference.

What I like about our public transport, after much thinking … Nothing really. Okay let me give the government some credit, they are working well on the highways, lets see how they’ll be after completion. Oh well, they’ve put ‘one ways’ in town, am still trying to understand how they reduce traffic, because according to I , traffic is still the same, if not worse. I did like the Michuki rules, and I respect that man, he had seriously streamlined public transport. (Michuki for President…lol)

The Abyss of the Unknown

There’s so much thats not known to us as humans… I tend to think that most of the conclusion we come up with are mainly through assumption, estimations, approximations, beliefs, peoples thoughts, faith.

To be for real, I live by faith… I make myself believe in things. Because there are so many things to question, but no one will ever have the answers. Only God does, he’s our creator i mean, and I chose to believe he exists even though i have never seen him. I believe that theres a heaven and you have to do good(obey the commandments) so that when you cease to live, thats your next destination.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). You might not find these words if you looked up “faith” in a dictionary, but this was the best description of faith i could at least think of.

I have grown up in a christian setting, I remember going to the sunday school , i always used to look forward to it, because we had the best sunday school teachers ever, they would teach us bible stuff using funky cuttings with different colours and calligraphed wordings, get us gifts if you memorized bible verses … how cool is that. They are the ones who moulded my belief in God and the bible. Though there some questions I always wonder…maybe I will ask in  heaven..hehe. Here are some of the things I have always wondered and no one has really ever answered them, not that am even looking for answers because I know no one has the correct answers :)

  1. Who is God really … besides being my creator and heavenly father and I believe in him…but who is he?? is he like invisible, does he really watch over all of us, does he hear all our prayers (I assume he does, thats why I pray for almost everything…lol), I wonder how he looks, is he a man or a woman??
  2. Where is heaven and hell? I have always assumed ‘heaven’ is up somewhere like over the skies while on the other hand ‘hell’ is down like rock bottom down …don’t know how high or deep it gets though. Or are they imaginary things??
  3. Where do people go when they die?? are their souls lifted away from the body then the body is eaten by termites and fungus and then what happens to the soul?
  4. How come the soul is not a bodily organ? is it like the spirit in you …what exactly is it? how does it look?
  5. Who are these people who wrote the bible?? and what makes us all believe that what they were saying is true?? maybe they were writing a fiction story, science fiction cupped up with some romance story. I was told in my C.R.E class that they were holy spirit filled men of God. How are they spirit-filled? And how would you know someone is spirit-filled? Is it the way they act, talk, walk??
  6. Who came up with the words in the bible?… actually who came with language, what made them decide that they will call a certain thing this and that? and who approved it?

So besides God and the bible, there are many other things that are so totally unknown to us. You know everyone has sort of built their own world in their heads. Like you wouldn’t know what the other person is thinking…under no circumstance. People could say communication, but there’s only so much one can say.. the rest is actively hosted in your cerebrum.

How do you know what the other person is thinking ? My take is that you will never know.

How do you know the other person loves you and wants the best for you? My take actions speak loud, but still how do you know its depth, or maybe your just assuming.

How do you know a person doesn’t like you? My take, actions again. but in the real sense sometimes what you see is not what you get. You could think some hates you but maybe they like you and their way of showing you makes you think otherwise.

I like how people come up with books and movies that help people try to understand people. Like men try to understand women and vice versa. According to yours truly, I think every person is totally different. There’s a friend of mine who uses this quote so much:

“Ones man meat is another mans poison”

People generalize a lot. Although similar species could be similar in a way, humans are pretty different … just that probably the actions lead to the same consequences and people tend to think men are all the same and women are all the same.

How do you know what makes another person happy? They could tell some but others they can’t even describe?

Personally, there are many things I would want to say but I tend to hold back sometimes because you don’t know what the other person is thinking. Hence “the Abyss of the Unknown” …

What makes you think the other person will understand what you’re trying to say from your point of view. What they understand is always from their point of you. So kudos if you’re on the same level of understanding — those are the people i like conversing with.

Conflict of understanding is always the basis of arguments..haha check this out:

“A long dispute means that both parties are wrong” — Voltaire

For sure, because everyone thinks they are right. Even when the topic is subjective. No person in their right senses will accept to have thought wrong..eben when they’re being ignorant. Like the MP who said ‘water doesn’t come from trees’…LMAO that was stupid.

Funny. Us guys did Ethics units in campus and i used to wonder ‘what makes the lecturers think they are right in their views…’ you know they’ll put for you less marks after asking you what you think about a certain scenario… not so cool. It’s your thought for pits sake, maybe they should have asked… ‘according to how I lectured you, how would I think in such and such a scenario?’ Now I would answer how she wants it…hehe.

There is still a whole lot more of what I think and wonder and with no answers. If I get to know how to put it in writing, am going to update this.

Kiss GoodBye

Being dumped, haha just thought about it, well been there done that to and it’s not the end of the world, life has to move on. You know, Life is a bitch like that… but maybe your also acting like one thats why its being hard on you too…ok, that’s a nice way of thinking about it.

You know someone can be a bitch and a sweetheart at the same time… I think thats how life is too. Haha ‘Bitter Sweet’…sucks huh! Oh Thanks to Adam and Eve. They just should’ve been obedient and we’d all be happy with a painless life…with lots of manna and honey and singing…lol

For whatever reasons i even thought about writing this…anyway,I just find it funny how guys start dating and they think the world of each other, like if you interviewed someone at that point, I can assure you 100% that the couples cannot imagine life without the other. But after dating for a while and you discover that past the physical and bliss theres the inner person that u weren’t really aware of … and as you get to know each other, your like ” Oh my God, with did i get into “…and you start looking for the fastest escape route. To get to these break up, one uses all sorts of excuses. while you could just tell the other person your plainly just not interested in them any more(ok, that was meant to come out just like a wish, because thats the hardest thing one could do, doing that is just plain right evil and hurtful, wouldn’t do so, i would rather come up with a million and one excuses).

So a series of ways to break up, dump or be dumped; some of which I have been a victim of….oops or I have heard of!

  1. You’re like my brother (or sister) …and my good friend, if we continue we’ll just ruin everything. This is an honest truth that sounds like a lie, but t
  2. Where you aren’t even sure if you’re dating..haha but theres no connection or chemistry so you just cut communication, like zilch communication..no text, no calls, NO MEMORY.. and it just ends like that. But thats mainly for non-committal relationships – did quite a couple of this.
  3. Then theres the being dumped through the phone,to be a bit specific through an SMS …oh, that happened to me. I couldnt even believe it…oh, t’woz in class, I jus read the text and shock my head in agreement. its called being young..hehe (That just screams ‘fear of the unknown’ but its the best way to avoid drama)
  4. The “its me at fault, not you”always works although its cliche…I think its the politest way because you sort of put the blame on yourself hence the other party is less hurt.
  5. “I love you, but am just not in-love with you”…now thats like a sword into ones heart, what would someone do to deserve that.
  6. “You completely changed, you are not who you were when I met you” :) , “Oh hell yah I am the same ol’ same ol’ person” …as some say love is blind, as much as i disagree to that statement, I think it is. or if not, then one gets possessed by something…then it the possession is whisked away by some reality checks.
  7. “Am just not that into you”… in most cases this is used when theres another person in line after you are boooted…watch that space you’re leaving black.
  8. “Ignore, Ignore, Ignore….any calls, texts, visits”…is used for those people who aint just getting it…its over Kapish over, and they’re still trotting by your side…thats the only way to deal with them. I hate such, at least i haven’t
  9. The one that hit the jack-pot “I want a family, kids, a house, to drive a car — and right now you just cant provide that”… WTH, now this is the lamest, because when you started dating you knew the financial position of the guy.so is it that now you have found someone to provide that??? Yet to find out…

Those are just but a few, well in case you know others….yo welcome to add so that at least If someone pulls for you some line it wont be such a suprise…or maybe it will hurt less :)

My two pense here, is that when you’re breaking up with some one at east make it cultured. You know, like you don’t have to be enemies..actually i think you’d make better friends, because at least the chemistry has been explored and now you’re both non-curious. So you can just ‘Kiss Goodbye’ to the relationship but welcome a long undying friendship :)

Classy, Sexy, Hot and Cool

My take on what classy, sexy, hot and cool are. This is very objective and they’re more of my own words and thoughts. Well to aid in my explanations, i opted to use Celebrity models i.e. actors and singers to further elaborate or so that you can see the picture instead of trying to imagine…hehe

So here goes;

Classy looks exquisite, elegant, unique, kind of expensive, enterprising. One doesn’t have to be really hot or sexy to look classy. For classy, its more of how you dress. The fabric, the quality… now thats classy. And it looks attractive in a hidden way.

Classy Look

Sandra Bullock, i think had the classy look in “The Proposal” movie.I totally loved the simple official look. The Black well-cut suit accessorised with the small black belt. Then black matching shoes that have a touch of red. The brown bag gives a bit of contrast.

Now this to me is classy.

Kate WinsletClassy

Kate Winslet, also has the classy look with the dresses. Very Simple black and blue dress without much accessories. The word “Elegance” is just screaming.

Sexy is just like the word itself, it is sexually appealing look, it’s the one of those, stop and stare/glance. It mainly has to do with the body poise, body figure and some sort of facial expression…The sexy look makes someone look Yummy.

Sexy

Angelina jolie

Angelina Jolie is my no.1 definition of Sexy…the eyes, the lips, the facial expression …. The picture here speaks 1000 words..YUMMY!

Sexy

Beyoncé Knowles

Beyoncé on the other hand has got the body…nice figure well sculptured. It speaks volumes..hehe, totally appealing to the men especially, as well as women. Her poises to sort of bring out her sexyness.

Hot is I think more natural beauty, like one is pretty(it’s just there) even without all the make up, smooth skin, nice body… one could be fat/ thin and still be hot. They are noticeable from afar.

Hot

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson depicts hotness. She’s plus size and she’s naturally beautiful. She makes big look pretty, hot and totally cool at that.

Hot

Taylor Swift

That’s Taylor Swift for you, absolutely gorgeous, natural beauty right there. In every sense of it.

Cool is the simple trendy look, it has to mainly do with how you dress or carry yourself out. No much drama, just calm and collected. Sort of the chilled out look and one would say you haven’t tried too much.

I could say this look is normally unobtrusive…its not like the sexy look which is highly noticeable.

Cool

Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz, has that cool look. Its simple but looks trendy. As you can see she probably dint try too much to look nice but she does, now thats cool to me.

Cool

Halle Berry

Halle Berry here carries out the total and complete cool look, very simple, doesn’t scream out “look at me”..its more inconspicuous, but when you see, you totally like and want to be associated with.

So that’s “My Take” for today.

To conclude, I think anyone can be classy and cool because it’s mainly in how you dress, and how you carry yourself out. For instance, You dress in a classy or cool way… then you have to sit, walk and talk classy or cool. Otherwise, that look doesn’t work.

As for hot and sexy, actually the two sometimes do go hand in hand. I think its more of how you look, that is, in terms of your appearance, bodily structure, hair. Then topped up by how you dress the body…It’s just God-given :)

Phonetic Alphabet

I found this pretty interesting, the NATO phonetic alphabet as used by the military guys and also for business and telecommunications in Europe and North America. Always see guys using coded language… and I think thats sooo cool. At least I got to learn one, so here goes:

A – Alpha
B – Bravo
C – Charlie
D – Delta
E – Echo
F – Foxtrot
G – Golf
H – Hotel
I – India
J – Juliet
K – Kilo
L – Lima
M – Mike
N – November
O – Oscar
P – Papa
Q – Quebec
R – Romeo
S – Sierra
T – Tango
U – Uniform
V – Victor
W – Whiskey
X – X-ray
Y – Yankee
Z – Zulu

So to make memorizing easier I was taught to spell stuff, like my name using the phonetic alphabet. Say:

MERCY – Mike, Echo, Romeo, Charlie, Yankee

For messages,

I MISS YOU – India Mike India Sierra Sierra Yankee Oscar Uniform ;)

I find this just too cool.
