TGIFriday *Halloween Weekend*

Thank God It’s Friday! Long tiring week it’s been, with some few funny instances which came to pass. And now that I think of it, I got to learn something from that. I should take it easy and not be too quick to react or judge, because I can be pretty apprehensive.

It’s almost Halloween (or Hallowe’en), which according to Wikipedia, is an annual holiday observed on October 31. It commonly includes activities such as trick-or-treating, attending costume parties, carving jack-o’-lanterns, bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.

So what are you going to do this weekend? I wish I could actually tell scary stories and guys get scared. I remember when I was in high school we had guys from coast scaring us off with ghost stories, which I actually believed…tsk! Horror Movies … ummm! I think I have been having one pending for the longest time, can’t even remember the name yeah am that anti-horrors, because 3/4 of the watching time is spent weight lifting the pillow to my eyes then back to my lap, then back to my eyes.

Random thoughts

All those wishes we made or make! On your birthday when you blow the candle, when you pluck the eyelash and blow it away or see a shooting star … what happened to some of them. And who said that that was the ideal time to make a wish?

I’m feeling

Like I want to write in abbreviations, so that no one else understands. That’s a weird…irky feeling huh, but it’s a nice one too, it’s like having butterflies in your tummy!

This weekend

I’m looking for my long lost girl friends … anyone see any of them give me a call :)

I’m craving

I think I dislocated (okay, maybe I’m pushing it) my back today while cleaning my veranda! It’s ouch’y in a not so painful way. I don’t know if you get what I mean, but it’s really uncomfortable. Now I’m thinking a massage could come in so handy.

Songs of the week

Am stuck to Chris Daughtry – Life After You #replay

Also Chris Brown – Should’ve Kissed You —> AWESOME! Clearly I’m a lover girl…lol, you can’t blame me!

I want and pray

That I’m able to juggle between work, school, social life and then taking care of myself —> Maen! It not that easy. That then gets me wondering how mum’s hack it. Day’s I really appreciate my mum, considering that every time she came home at the end of each day she still gave us all the attention we deserved.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“How does one become a butterfly?” she asked. “You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar”

To an awesome weekend, to having fun, living, laughing and loving. Stay Safe. XO!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is coming to an end in a few days. And I can assure you if there’s one thing that has been really publicized this month, it’s the Breast Cancer Awareness cause. Everyone has come up with an initiative that encourages every woman and man, young and old to go and have their boobies examined.

I love it that we’re all mindful of others and ensuring that everyone has at least had a check up. I have had friends and relatives diagnosed with cancer and to be honest I hate that disease, it just eats you up our loved ones. It’s like a prolonged horror movie … in and out of hospital, drugs, depreciating health, worried family members, financial drains … it just doesn’t get any better.

It’s inevitable, but can be detected earlier and if detected earlier, something can be done (it’s said that it can be curable if detected at an early stage) and that’s why with all these awareness programmes, we should go ahead and get examined and be cleared off of any worries associated with cancer. Especially those of which can be felt or examined, so far I know of, breast cancer, cervical cancer and prostate cancer.

So my friends have this project going on called #ThePinkProject. It’s usually advised that you should go for this examinations yearly. So what they do, is that once you register with them here, you get a yearly reminder. The reminder will be on your birthday, so just in case you forget your birthday or other people do, at least The Pink Project will remember you :)

Do you know why everyone is doing this awareness stuff?  It’s because we cannot imagine a world without you! Yeah … I know you’re probably thinking, but you don’t even know me, but the world, my dear friend is like a ball gum, tiny! So if your family members or friends are sad, chances are that it’s trickling down to someone else are very high, and it could get to you, me and anyone else. So if we strive to make sure that everyone is alright, then that right there, will lead to happy people.

Ever asked yourself, what the world would be without women?

I think women are the source of life, by all means. And no, I don’t mean procreation and giving birth, that’s standard. She makes everything come to life —> at home, at work, in the streets. They bring color and the femininity is just calming.

Yes, women make everything complicated, and they will make you want to work harder to please them, to make them happy. They express their emotions, and their eyes are the windows to their heart and soul. That’s why you will never get a book on how to understand a woman…hehe *sorry dudes*. They can do literally anything they set their hearts to do and that’s why they make good multi-taskers and can really take care of “the world”. And that’s what makes the world a happy place for you.

So a world without women, would be lifeless, nothing to look forward to and definitely no one to please , difficult … They are that one other thing that makes life interesting, a piece of the puzzle! Truth told it would be sucky! Ha ha . Okay, I’m a woman, so I’m biased, but I’m sure a day without me would be disastrous to many :p

By the way, the Breast Cancer Examination is something you can do yourself as well : Check out this link  here . It’s healthy to touch yourself and know what your body is about. Feel anything abnormal, be sure to go the clinic and get a thorough check up.

For cervical and prostate cancer, you need to go to the clinic as they have to do some lab tests and so on. There’s also a vaccination for cervical cancer known as Human Papillomavirus Vaccine. Just go to the clinic and inquire about it. Personally I went to Family Health Care Center a branch of Family Health Options Kenya, that’s where I go for anything gynecological. Their services are amazing and totally informational on all aspects of reproductive health. In case you were looking for a clinic to go you can try it out. They are located at Phoenix House, 5th Floor, along Kenyatta Avenue.

Don’t forget to be your sister’s and brother’s keeper. God bless!

Friday *Twice*

Thank God It’s Friday! Two “Friday’s” in a week! It couldn’t get any better than that … a much deserved break! Yesterday felt like a Sunday and today was meant to feel like a Monday. In the morning it sure did, waking up was such a bitter drug. Not any more, counting down to “After Work O’clock” *wink*

Random thoughts

Haha it’s is funny how there’s a quote, a song, a thought for every situation you’re going through. Like every single situation. The interesting bit is that, whatever you’re going through, there’s someone else who has gone through it, is going through, is going to go through it. Then there are others in much worse situations than yours.

So whatever you go through, in as much as you are tempted to ask “why me?”, it’s just not you. Maybe you could think to even ask for your fellow human mates … “why us?” hehe. That could be the sole reason they say, a problem shared, is a problem half solved (sometimes even fully solved.)

I’m feeling

Like I have no idea about what I want. Actually I have an idea … puh! Confused much. JEEZ! Let’s just say I need the Lord’s intervention or … okay no or’s, I just need that intervention like soon.

This weekend

I need to do something different. Now to look for someone to tag along with me or even better to derail me. Plus, I got a place to do salsa classes on Sunday evening’s *whoop whoop*. Went to Brew Bistro for Salsa night on Wednesday and vowed to myself that by December I should dance through a whole song. It looks so graceful, beautiful and amazing.

I’m craving

I’m thinking, salsa, salsa, salsa! I need not to step on someone … lol

Songs of the week

Jason Derulo – It —-> I’ve been looking under rocks and breaking locks, just trying to find you *nods head*, am I the only one who likes Jason’s songs (yeah, we are now on first name basis … lol)

And you could also try out “One Republic – Good Life” —> Awesome. Looks like whistling is the new thing … hehe

I want and pray

The war between Kenya and Somali Al Shaabab, I just think it also needs God’s intervention. You know one of those situations where you don’t know how to pray for. Yeah, this is one of those. May God protect our people’s.

I want to have every reason to keep my smile on because I have more than a million reasons to. No.1 being, I have a killer smile *tooooooot* :p

Press Reset

Do you ever wish that life had some sort of reset button? Like, I think I just screwed up *RESET*, I don’t like where or how this is going *RESET*, I just want to start all over again just because *RESET*. It could come in handy on one of those bad days gone absolutely wrong. You know the kind where there’s nothing much you can do but just hold out and get through it. The button would look something like this ↓, strategically placed right next to your bed, so that when you close your eye’s and think or experience the above, you can just press it and everything is cleared off (back to factory settings i.e. minus all the baggage).

Unfortunately folks, that does not exist! Sucky huh! I mean out of all the stuff that’s been invented, they just couldn’t have come up with that. That’s what we need the most, not coffee makers, dish washers and sandwich toasters … ok, that’s a lie, we need those too…hehe. Well, someone of course thought of that and designed a really nice way of resetting your day, month or year (basically your life) back to a near normal again using those important aspects of our lives. Here goes;

Health

  • 30 Days to Health. Choose a month to start new eating habits. Maybe you want to become vegetarian, vegan or completely raw or maybe you just want to eliminate processed foods like; frozen food, chips, soft drinks, candy and essential junk foods.
  • Go on the Master Cleanse: a 10 day mono-diet fast that will help you reboot your health and eating habits. It helps you rejuvenate your body and your mind. When you’re not spending your energy on digestion, your body can use its energy to heal itself.  It’s amazing when you’re fasting how much time you realize you spend thinking about eating and making food. (hehe I can’t hack this one)

Simplicity

  • Reassess your mess. Go through out all your junk and make 3 piles: toss/recycle, donate, and keep. Throw out or donate or sell anything you haven’t used in over a year. The same rule applies with your closet, garage and wardrobe.
  • Unwind your mind. We spend a lot of time trying to organize and create more functional living spaces. But we often neglect the most important space we live in: our mind. Now it’s the best time to reboot your mind. Drop disempowering beliefs and drop negativity.

Relationships

  • Reconnect. Most of our ambitions are centered around ourselves, but they don’t all have to be. Maybe you want to make your resolution to spend more time with your partner or your kids. Maybe you want to create a better relationship with your parents. Or perhaps you just want to dissolve a grudge you’ve been holding against someone. Now is a good time to forgive and forget.
  • Be more romantic. With all our goals surrounding our careers, productivity, and health, it’s easy to put romance on the back burner. A few ways to jump start your ideas for rekindling romance might be: giving your lover love coupons, spending more quality time together and dating your partner more often. Even if it just means going out for coffee or watching a movie on the couch together. (For the singles *cough* take it up in future … lol)

Finance (Reboot your bank account)

  • Here’s a great exercise to start:  Take out a paper and draw a line down the middle. Mark the first side as column a, mark the other side column b.
  • Look over your bank account for the past 30 days and write down all your non-essential purchases in column a. This includes things like unneeded spending on clothes, lattes, junk food, renting movies, entertainment, gadgets, CDs, etc. Don’t include things such as rent/mortgage, utility and phone bills.
  • Now in column b write down all the things you’d like to have money for to pursue things you’re passionate about. This might be thing like dance lessons, tai chi or yoga classes, a mountain bike, you get the idea. Try to see what you can remove from column a to make more room for the things in column b.

Fitness

  • Maintain the chain. Make a simplified resolution is to create an exercise chain and all you need is a calendar. Choose one month of the year and make a pact to exercise every day. Each day you exercise, you put an X through that day on calendar. Your job is to not break the chain.
  • Tap the troupe. It’s easy to fall off the wagon when you’re going it alone. If you join a local fitness group, you’ll have others that will hold you accountable.

As you can see, it’s not as easy as pressing a button. This one consists of reading, writing, challenges … but it’s something anyway. It doesn’t clear off memory but at least it breaks the usual routine and makes you feel different. Sometimes the solution to this messed up moments is just setting up new goals or dream and setting aspirations that come from your heart and what you value most. Then just take it one day at a time, think small but act big.

In other unrelated news, Shujaa day was awesome. I respected the shujaa in myself and gave her a break. The day was spent sleeping, watching movies, eating and eventually thought, “Jeez,  I need to do something a little bit more constructive” … hence the post.

A BIG cheers to all our fallen heroes and heroines, we are where we are because of them regardless of how small or big their impact was felt. I sure hope that statement makes sense.

Tell Me *About You*

Tell me something about yourself? Tell me more about you? What is that thing about you that others don’t know? What is it that drives you or makes you tick? Blah Blah Blah! … all boils down to who are you and the other person wondering or thinking what they are going to get out of being with you.

*Cringe*… *Shriek* that’s the questions that gives me the shivers. Really ask me about anyone or anything else, and I can write a composition or even go ahead and research, but ask me about me and I go blank *loses signal…tururu*. Like where do I begin, yeah I can narrate for you my CV, the schools I’ve been what I’ve studied, my experience, where I’ve worked and stuff like that. Easy Peasy! Then now, you really want to know what I’m about … now that’s the hard part.

I know at the back of my head who I am … but getting it out is the issue. Do you ever feel like you need to justify something about you. If I say this about me to you , then I need to have back up like yeah, that’s because I do this and that. Let me use a cliche one, like I’m fun loving, I know … but there are factors that should be considered here, such as the environment, people around me, the time, my state and so on.

I just tend to think those questions are so vague. Maybe what I tell you about me is not what you get. Then a light bulb just appears, maybe that’s the essence of the statement “WYSIWYG” – What You See Is What You Get. Sometimes we have certain traits that we don’ know about until a certain situation arises. Personally, I like teasing people that I’m boring just to create a window in case I’m actually boring at that particular time … haha but deep inside I know given that all factors held constant I’m am super interesting.

The point I’m driving home, is we can’t know people by asking them who they are … sometimes you just need to be in their presence to know them, hang out, chit chat, do stuff. Truth be told, if asked those questions I never do justice to myself … if anything I first go blank, and say the most irrelevant things about me or things that I think will make you happy and want to hang around me :p yeah shoot me now! Disclaimer: No lies though … lol

Random thoughts

Why is it that we have solutions to other people problems and we go ahead advice them or know exactly where they are going wrong, judge them and sometimes even condemn them but when it comes to dealing with our own we are so clueless and we don’t want anyone judging us or condemning us or better yet even highlighting them. Maybe it’s just called being human. We know it all for other people, but not for ourselves *sigh*

Do you ever wonder what people think about you when they see you? In the club, in the streets, at the park, as you stroll. I know the first thing I think when I see someone looking at me is especially on the streets is “oh snap! I hope my fly ain’t open”. Like seriously, I could have thought it’s because I’m looking smurfilicious, but nooo, it’s happened one too many times. I think that I need to be confident that it’s because just looking awesome, before I look down. Yeah, I’m shy too … so eye contact kind of gives me the heebie jeebies. I know you just shrugged off the “I’m shy” bit. I can read minds too.

Quote of the day!

Hope y’ll are doing great? Just checking up on you :) Yeah I can be that sweet girl who does that *toot tooooot*

Friday Musings

Thank God It’s Friday! My day started at a high note, and and I will let it remain like that … By the power vested in me. In as much as the weather and other unrelated things are trying to turn that smile into a frown. I got this!

Random thoughts

Why did they invent ties? They don’t even keep you warm, such a waste of material and some people are forced to wear them to work every single day … sorry mr.man!

Sick off’s are AWESOME especially when you’ve caught a bad flu (but being seriously sick sucks though, I wouldn’t want that). You just sleep, sleep and sleep, then wake up and eat, watch a movie, then black out with no guilty feelings after. People call to check up on you and the special ones even get you goodies.

Last but not least, I don’t trust debit cards, so someone used mine. Thank God it was just Ksh 275, now I will be more paranoid. No more online transactions and I will be checking every single shilling on the statements. Eh, kwani I’m working for someone else to eat. If someone needs help…JUST ASK? and you might just be given. *shaking my head aggressively*

I’m feeling

This weekend

I have no idea what I’m up to! No slightest idea, worst case scenario … watch movies all night then black out at some point and drag myself to bed.

I’m craving

Been spoilt lately! So "I don't know"

Songs of the week

Yeah, I can whistle, but someone told me whistling is not for girls … tihihi! This is a song that gives me one good reason to whistle *whistles away*… I’ve got the moves like Jagger, I’ve got the mooooooves like Jagger. Maroon 5 totally rocks!

I want and pray

I pray for it to get even better than it is. It’s awesome right now. I’m a good person and I deserve the best … yeah! I think so to and no I’m not toot toot’ing for myself. I’ve been told that … hehe so it’s just kind of sunk in please bear with me :) . Also for my parents, they are two in a million, I hope I will be like them when I become one…you just can’t not love them to bits, all the blessings to them.

I need to figure out what I want, and learn how to ask for it … It can be such a daunting task especially for me.

Smurfully Grateful

Who would have ever thought? I am so excited, I know this is small but I just got to 100,000 hits. You know it amazes me that there’s someone out there who reads my blog … yeah blah blah blah *I can read your mind you know* … I know I have said this over and over again, yeah, sometimes I need to do that for it to actually check in, more like pinch me to know its real kind of thing. Yes, I think about it, I feel lousy when I don’t put up something because of how much I visit other people’s blogs with so much psyche only to find they haven’t posted something … So what are the chances that there’s someone who feels the same about mine.

Then sometimes I wonder if what I write is really worth reading. So much for not believing in myself. Oh my I am so over the roof right now … literally. I am on Flu Gone (meds to eliminate thee flu I’ve got) and it makes me have that floaty feeling, like I’m high and stuff is just flowing from my mind through my heart and to my fingers.

For being able to scream out to the world through my lil’ stupendous blog … it’s actually brought me further than I thought. So for those who threw the seed into fertile land, thank you. At least the seed didn’t let you down, it keeps growing and growing. For those who keep watering the growing plant with random comments, corrections, compliments, thank you. For those who see the plant growing, but don’t understand what the plant is, thanks you for taking some time to try understand. At some point the plant will become a tree and bear fruits and then you will understand what tree is supposed to be. Even the plant does get confused sometimes, it gives very many mixed signals.

There’s no better way to appreciate, I wish I could buy 100,000 sweets and share, but seeing as this is very virtual, thank God … *throws some virtual sweets into the air*. I hope that makes you smile, even when you had nothing else to smile about. If you don’t and you reached this part, you must be faking it. Yes?

Have a smurful day *wink* and God bless you and me much. For me to write more and for you to read and get refreshed and an Amen to that!

Once in a Blue Moon

You know one of those things you usually say but have never really figured out if it’s actually in existence or not. That’s “once in a blue moon” for me. In my very broad and far-fetched imagination, I’ve always thought there’s a blue moon…hehe don’t judge. I  have never seen it, I know it’s usually kinda yellow or orange or hell yeah that colour, but I believed there’s a blue moon until now when I’ve just watched, “Smurfs”. Again, thou shalt not judge or think less of me, it’s a genuine belief *self-disclaiming much*

I usually have a list of my favourite movies of the year immediately after I watch them and today, “Smurfs” makes it to the list, right after “Friends with Benefits” and “A Little Bit of Heaven”. I guess by now you’ve figured my kind of movies.I’m a chic flick’ish kind of babe, so if a movie touches my heart and I can re-watch it … it goes up my priority list just like that…it’s all about the story line and how it’s executed.

It got me thinking, what if we used to name each other after our personalities or after we have exhibited certain traits … that’s so awkward, as in they have names like Hefty, Joggy, Greedy, Harmony, Baker, Complementary, Passive Aggressive, Clumsy. So if you’re called Clumsy, they all know you’re clumsy and they excuse you for your misdeeds … then Blondy just crossed my mind…hehe. How cool would that be? It would make everything easier, kind of gives you heads up on what to expect from that person.

I like how they say in the beginning, “As happy and as perfect as life in the smart village is, even sunshine and butterflies must have their dark cloud” … at least the smurfs know what theirs is, Gargamel the evil wizard. If only us humans knew ours, it would be much easier because we would know what exactly we are trying to escape. The smurfs are some tiny blue mythical creatures and as I watched I missed being a kid once again, I loved watching “Smurfs” the cartoon, they were so exciting and singy for lack of a better word.

After watching the movie, this is  what I got it in the end is that. You know those good things (once in a life time good things) that happen to us are like our tini-tiny smurfs. They just come out of nowhere and land in our lifes, they could have chosen other people, but somehow, they choose you. Sometimes, if not most of the time, we fail to see the big picture when those smurfs come into our life’s … we miss them because we are worried or afraid of things that maybe make sense at that time but can’t be left to work out  for themselves because they weren’t meant to be  barrier to our moment.

Our “once in a blue moon” is that moment and somehow there’s always someone to help us put things in perspective when we feel lost and we aren’t realizing our blue moon. I hope you don’t let yours pass by or brush off someone who’s trying to bring you into the earlier mentioned perspective.

Plus I just got some new smurfy vocabularies. Like “I am smurfully sorry” or “you look  Smurfulicious” … it just sounds smurfully genuine…lol. And a Smurful day to you *wink*
