Friday Fives

Thank God It’s Friday! It’s one of those days that I’m craving for its beauty, but it keeps unleashing it’s not so beautiful side from every corner. Getting the knots in the tum tum but oh well, trying to see it sunny side up. Hope my senses coordinate…lol

1. Oopsies!

School, work and life. That’s just a combination that kicks you real hard in the butt everyday. Let me give you a preview of what goes on in my mind as am randomly walking or sitting. *Crap, I haven’t sent that mail, tested something and I was supposed to give some feedback…we have a presentation tomorrow and assignments are still pending, my thesis is so expectant, have I communicated to the necessary people*. End of day. As in it’s just whisked away before I know it. Sometimes I manage to do what I had thought out to do, then other times, time plays me.

Kitkat, chocolate, Nestle

white or dark?

Some KitKat could easily make you forget the long day you’ve had. Which one do you prefer by the way, white or dark? I’m still torn between the two. Because this one is not the bitter dark (dark chocolate is yuck) and it’s the one I’ve been used to for ages. The KitKat white was a first for me, wasn’t bad though.

2. Weekly Crackers

You’re allowed to judge me as you wish right about now. Yeah, I had ugali for breakfast today.

ugali, tomatoes, breakfast

Left over Ugali decorated with tomatoes to make it look a little more attractive :-)

End of joke. Sometimes I do these things to either amuse myself or see how people react. What’s wrong with carrying ugali for breakfast anyway? People eat cereal, bread, chapati and the likes. But ugali raises brows. Its raw materials are the same that make corn flakes, that’s my excuse and I stick to it…hehe.

3. Faves and Craves

Got the African Print (a.k.a Kitenge) attire made some time ago all courtesy of Vonette, remember? I now want more. Plus her work has proven to be awesome, even from the people I had referred *whoop whoop*.

kitenge, African print, Vonetta, African

How I save some clothes for certain occasions and then I end up never wearing them seeing as am not the type to grace so many occasions. Who else has this habit? It’s about time we dropped it! Wear as you please despite the occasion.

4. Stupendous Snippet

I have a colleague who doesn’t do social media or any of these social sites, actually any sites at all. And no, I don’t mean she started and saw the pros and cons then opted out. She just didn’t get on to the bandwagon. I found that pretty interesting, like wow. Then for a moment there, I thought how my life would be if I wasn’t on any social media site, if I didn’t have a blog, if I was like totally private. Which to some extent I think I am, but of course not downright completely. It’s nice to meet my complete opposite.

Oh, I snapped out of that thought, because this is me. I enjoy this, as long as it doesn’t consume me whole.

5. T.G.I.F Inspiration

Saw this quote in a presentation being done by one of my class mates and thought how cool. I bet it touches on how different people lead, some prefer to research on existing theories, then imitate. Others look at what’s going on, then give orders on what is to be done. Then the others, get into it and experience it themselves.

“There are three kinds of men. The one that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.” ~ Will Rogers

That’s what we should do in the different areas in our lives. You’re better off peeing on the fence and seeing what happens, than reading, or observing how others are doing their thing. It could be different for your case and in most cases it is. no?

To living, laughing and loving more each day. Have a tamu weekend.

Friday Fives

Thank God It’s Friday! My mood is just in-sync with the weather today, not so sunshiny.

Friday, Fives, Friday Fives, TGIF

1. Oopsies!

Time is moving so fast and catching up. You know end of semester with everything labelled assignments and projects due. Let’s just say it’s something like

I have entered crunch time to meet my deadlines. You know how us last minutes guys can be, so pressure is what I am made of right now.  Looks like this doesn’t go well with so many other things. That sunshine would do me some justice (sunshine here being symbolic). But the real sun could do a little something too, the rain doesn’t make things any better unless when asleep. It makes you want to sleep more (do I want that now, no).

2. Weekly Crackers

When you see someone staring at you and not in the face, be sure to look down and check if your fly is zipped up and not down. Had a moment during the week, where this guy approaches me as I was waiting for the mister and says maybe I can wait inside the restaurant but I’m like, “no I’m okay waiting here”. Then he goes like,”I’ve tried to signal you, but your fly is open” O_O bummm! I look down at the damage, it was not that bad, meaning someone couldn’t quite see through, but embarrassing all the same. So I just zip up and continue tweeting.

Ps: Someone should do a meme on this scenario, too hilarious.

Deep inside I was having a “HAHA, YOU JUST GOT CAUGHT ZIP DOWN” moment. Thank God, I wasn’t rude to him or respond with a miss diva answer when he approached me. Some people just come across to you to help out, not necessarily hit on you.

3. Faves and Craves

Can’t wait to be done with school already, I just can’t wait. I crave the end of it, when I can do it voluntarily, not because I need to. This going to class everyday is such a bore. I wish I was reading for fun and not for exams, cats or proposals. Funny that I said this during my Undergraduate and am saying the same for my Post graduate, maybe I will still be saying the same when doing my PhD and feeling all frustrated because of the amount of work. The relief after finishing though is indescribable, you feel like a genius, especially if you ace it, at least I do, for a moment there…LOL

4. Stupendous Snippet

Simplicity beats complexity any day! If you can’t explain it to a 6-year-old then you probably don’t understand it yourself said someone. Maybe I should just carry this thought as I do my proposal. Because honestly, I am at that point you ask yourself, “what exactly am I doing, how exactly am I going to do it, crap! I’m so stuck, this shiii is difficult”. I am halfway done but gosh! I need to understand it and bring it out in the most simple way. I also don’t want to be grilled during my defense because I haven’t brought out my “problem” clearly.

Suffering! I bet you get the picture of how screwed I am right? *rhetorical*

5. T.G.I.F Inspiration

strength, woman

Maybe some good music, clear mind and I will hack it, yah. Any one else going through something almost close to this, if not this. I could do with some consolation, you know how we humans do. Just kidding though. Don’t let these stuff get to you, it’s just education at the end of the day (if my dad read this after the pressure he gives me on our calls, he can smack me…lol), it shouldn’t make life so miserable.

Friday Fives

Thank God It’s Friday! Eeh the week has really flown. It’s like it choses when to have wings, when to have legs, or remain legless. It’s started from a two days leave on Monday and Tuesday. Though it didn’t feel much like one because I was catching up with my research work and so on. Then back to work with of course work excitedly waiting for me. Jeez! Why that happens just after some few days of “resting”. How was your week?

1. Oopsies!

Remember when I used to complain (that’s if you follow me on twitter @Kawiria), that my Electricity bill was either coming in unrealistic amounts like KES 66 or in -ve amounts. There’s actually one month I went without a bill. Well, well, guess what? The REAL bill is now here and boy wasn’t it bill’y.

I had consulted my landlord on the matter (on that note, thank God for a good landlord and lady, those guys are good peoples…God bless them). Anyhow, back to the consultation and he told me the reader was either not doing their job or he was just making guesses on the bill which they usually do *lazy bums* then when thy actually come read your meter you’re bitch slapped with a crazy bill. Which is what happened. The good advice he gave me was, “enjoy the amenities, they are here for you to enjoy. But, don’t eat the money you’re to pay for them…lol”. I was for sure expecting some surprise bill, but wow, surprise, surprise again! We’ll check to make sure that it’s actually my bill, then of course that will lead to wallet damages.

2. Weekly Crackers

Progress in my research work at least. So my hopes of having done chapter one and two by end of October are not so bleak.

Got a research book by Kothari from mother dearest. So thoughtful as I will very much need it for the research. I am not anywhere close to finishing but at least I have made the most procrastinated step, starting it up. Getting ready for the tiresome rounds with the supervisors on corrections, recommendations and ish.

I am supposed to go to the Stanchart marathon and I have not lifted a hand or foot to exercise. Is that really a wise idea? Please note that it’s on Sunday and I was registered for the 10km run…LOL yeah, laugh at me too because the joke will definitely be on me come Sunday. When after a few meters I will start panting like crazy and my joints will be severely aching. That’s if I get the balls to go, I’ve started freaking out.

3. Faves and Craves

I can’t get over the cupcakes at Velvet Chocolate Cupcakes (hope I got the name right) at Junction.

Those cupcakes describe moments of pure yumminess. They come in different flavors, black forest with strawberries (my favorite of course), red velvet, chocolate e.t.c. They are spongy, chilled and melt-in-tongue delish. I don’t know how I finish them, they are never enough.

4. Stupendous Snippet

Today we had a talk dubbed, “Your steps to financial freedom” from Britam Insurance. I have done financial talks before and I almost at some point felt like I was in charge of my finances, somehow, but not today. This one got me thinking I am really not in charge of them. Some saving here, spending here, not spending there, fake budgets. Basically, I need to get serious about it, to plan and budget my finances. Well, that means a lot of recording and having more defined goals. Which I think for a better future, for me and my family *can I hear an AMEN* I need to sort this things out now.

5. T.G.I.F Inspiration

Finances, Future

Have a fun-filled weekend, make the most out of it. I on the other hand will definitely squeeze all the juices out of the weekend and make sure I finish (or at least come close to finishing) what I was supposed to before October. That’s ambition. To living, laughing and loving more.
