#TBT: Leftover Snippets.

Looking Back, TBT, Throw Back

I realized that sometimes when I write a post, I actually have some wise counsel *cough*. So as a #TBT, I revisited some of the posts that I thought sounded somewhat wise – or better yet, inspirational. I tend to forget about things I’ve written in the past, so it served as a good reminder to myself as well. You know how we do with left overs, we mix a bit of everything to make a delish meal. Here goes the leftover snippets, it reads…

“It’s all about you. What you want. In your situations. Just when. You bring value.”

IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU.

You wish that the people got to know you first before judging you by what you say about yourself. Because truth be told, most of us don’t do justice to ourselves. Maybe that’s why we lose out on good jobs, great opportunities and so on. Unfortunately, the world ain’t patient or that kind to you, so one has to figure how to get these “unwelcome questions” right. I think the trick to answering them is loving YOUrself, loving what YOU do (it doesn’t have to be what you are at work, it could even be what you enjoy doing or what you’re really good at). For instance just because you are a sales man and you don’t like what you do, that doesn’t define you. You define yourself. You could be a sales man who writes really well or who loves public speaking. How do you go about saying who you are when you have varied statuses? Go for what fulfills your heart and own it. You get better at it with time. It leads you to knowing what you want and then you chase it. When you get it, you will be able to even say who you are and what you do much better.

At the end of the day, it’s about doing some really good work with what you’ve got. Ain’t it? And sometimes, all you’ve got is YOU! So how about YOU love what YOU are involved in because the world rotates around YOU!

PostUnwelcome Questions

WHAT YOU WANT.

Don’t be belittled by things you don’t have, if you really want something, you will get it, not necessarily now, but you will eventually. That’s because you will work towards getting it. So don’t lose hope, it’s somewhere around the corner.

Sometimes life operates like a road with traffic lights. It’s not every-time you’re on the go, sometimes you’ve got to wait and other times you need to stop and give others way or even help them get to where they’re going.

“You will get all you want in life if you will just help other people get what they want.”~ Zig Ziglar

Post: Friday Fives

IN YOUR SITUATIONS.

“It’s funny how situations make us feel like the grass is greener elsewhere, whilst the grass that we’re not watering is what we had earnestly asked for because it used to be the greener grass that we’d eyed ages ago when we didn’t water the grass that we’re now seeing as greener!”

How we don’t put an effort into making better what we have. Then we look at other people and think wow, they have things going for them. Nothing comes easy, even when from the outside it looks like someone is having it easy, they’re are going through their own struggles to get there, they’re putting in effort to have things going for them. So in as much as the grass always looks greener on the other side, know that there’s someone watering it and maintaining it. Such that if you got that green grass you admire, you also still need to maintain it. Working at it and for it *whatever it is that makes you feel like you got it* never stops.

Post: Friday Fives

JUST WHEN.

You know those things that come easy for you – yeah you know them – I would compare it to a meal you love cooking, you have it on your fingertips, you can even cook with your eyes close and still get it right.

On the other hand, you’re faced by things that make you feel like you’re totally doing it wrong. Leave along getting it wrong, because you don’t even get it in the first place, this can be frustrating. This could be like cooking a new or unfamiliar meal. One that you even had no idea existed, so you have to skirmish your way through learning how to do it. Chances are that you’ll be hard on yourself with the outcome. You’ll feel like it’s not good enough, it’s not that sweet enough, it doesn’t look so appealing, maybe others won’t enjoy it. And so is with many things in life. Especially those that don’t come to you easy.

Just when you think you’re getting it wrong, you’re probably getting it right. Just that you’re intimidated by that wrong feeling that you miss out on what’s going right. We really cock-block ourselves sometimes, it’s a matter of believing in yourself, hard as it is.

YOU BRING VALUE.

Do you ever think of what value you add to the person(s) you meet or the people you spend your days with? Because what’s friendship if you don’t add some value to someone? If you don’t feed off each other? Yes, friendship is a symbiotic relationship. I usually say that if I meet someone and we hit it off, at least let us have a conversation that will somehow build each in one way or another, even if for humors sake. Like leave someone laughing their guts out or happy about themselves or what they do.

What makes someone irreplaceable is not who they are or seem to be as individuals, but the value they bring to your life, even if for the moment you interact with them.

There are people you meet and you feel like they’re sucking the life out of you, like you’re offering too much of yourself yet you’re getting nothing in return. While there are others you meet that speak life into you and the moment you part ways, you feel re-energized, and given a chance, you’d not want to let them go. What are those things you value in your friendships?

Thank God It's Friday

Thank God It’s Friday

Have you ever had so much to be grateful for to an extent that any moment a feeling of sadness or discontent wants to creep in, you feel guilty and you just smile it away. That’s me right now. I don’t have a valid reason why I should frown or be sad. That would be truly unfair, I am blessed beyond words. I don’t have everything I want in life, but I have everything I need to get me there.

Woi this Friday though! It’s still not sunk in that it’s Friday. I lost a day during the week, must have been Tuesday. So the Friday excitement might just check in tomorrow, then next thing I know it’s Monday again. That’s so skunky…hehe new word.

WATCHING

Olympus has fallen, you know that movie that you watch and feel re-energized, like you didn’t waste a minute. This is it. If I was to rate it in my books, I would say 9.2. This is just not to sound so gullible because really, I am when it comes to well directed movies. But jeez! I loved everything about it, except where the presidents wife had to die. They couldn’t have painted a better picture of the presidents wife, then let her go when the movie is starting.

Crossing the Line, an investigative movie cum series about a special unit of cops who are chasing a serial killer. I kinda got confused at the end though because when I started watching it I thought it was a movie. Then they say ‘next episode’.

The Croods, one animation I had eagerly awaited for to the extent that I pre-paid for it. All thanks to E! Then I watched it and it was well not so ‘Happy Feet’-y or ‘Puss-In-Boots’-y. Maybe it’s because I was too sleepy. It was about ‘the croods’, cave-beings who have to survive after their cave is destroyed and are introduced into a fantasy world in which they have to survive in with the help of some boy their curious cave-daughter met.

The Haves and the Have Nots, it’s a Tyler Perry, interesting drama series about the rich getting richer and the poor get even. Some rich judge getting into a messy black mail situation with an escort from a poor family, oh and she’s a b**ch.

Eagerly waiting to watch, The Internship, World War Z and White House Down.

LOVING

My family and friends. If there’s a time I ever thought that, ‘maybe I don’t have friends’, ‘maybe friends are hard to find and eventually keep’, it got rubbed off because they literally swept me off my feet. On what was my big achievement but which I underplayed to self-protect. My family and friends went ahead to show me what a GREAT achievement it was. It turned out way better than I had expected, talk of low expectations and getting over and beyond. Nothing but LOVE for them.

Friends and Fam

LISTENING TO

I am hooked to this song for now. For some reason it’s stuck in my mind.

READING

Starting on Paulo Coelho’s – Brida. Do you guys have any book suggestions? I have gone to the book store a couple of times and all times, I have come out empty handed o_O maybe I’m the one with the problem but I just don’t want to read a book that’s not intriguing or inspiring. Might end up reading a ‘Danielle Steel – Big Girl‘ I have in the house. There must have been a reason I purchased it.

EATING

Gah! Let’s not go there, quite the combinations.

Food, Chicken, London Dairy, Macaroni

LOOKING FORWARD TO

A very chilled out weekend with no plans set. Events, which for purposes of surprise, I shall not mention until its past…lol that’s considering the suprisee’s stumble upon my blog. Plus great opportunities that are on their way.

SAVING FOR

Inky pinky ponky. If I started naming things here, you would probably judge me. You get me, you’re probably thinking the same huh!

PLANNING FOR

An out of town very soon of course with the mister and a few friends who can be derailed.

Thank God It’s Friday!

Thank God It’s Friday!

I am not into flowers, but this one did brighten my day. I think it’s how the colors have been absorbed into the silkiness of the rose petals. I can’t even believe I am actually saying that. This is me who’s very anti-flowers. This one made me melt, just a bit.

WATCHING

Glee Ssn 4, I think I’m just in love with musicals. It keeps me awed the whole time. The Following, my friend recommended it and she was so enthusiastic on how nice it is. I would recommend it to you with the same enthusiasm for sure.

LOVING

My work. It’s not every day that your leader realises what you love doing and they try in every way to give you a push towards it. I am grateful.

LISTENING TO

Jack Johnson – Sleep Through the Static. I have just been given this album by a colleague and I can’t get over the Angel song.

READING

Paulo Coelho – Aleph. Decided to start with what I have and haven’t read. You know the saying, ‘it’s right under your nose.’ The book was just accumulating dust on my shelf. Now blowing it off to see what it has to offer.

EATING

Pork. I LOVE how the boyfriend cooks it (yes, he can cook, not bragging but yummers). It’s the far taste of the salt and spices and the near taste of honey. Let’s just say I lick my lips, fingers and almost my plate, this is to maintain your decent thoughts of me. It’s one of those meals I never want to finish.

LOOKING FORWARD TO

Road trip to Meru tomorrow with the parents. Now that my baby sister pulled out of the plan. We’re going to the farm, can’t wait to see how hard they’ve worked on making it a home away from home for us. The things parents do for their children.

SAVING FOR

Still, I got my mind on a ‘get-a-way’ trip and a ‘get-a-way’ trip on my mind.

PLANNING FOR

Handing in the final corrected copy of my thesis. Crossing my fingers that the process goes through quick, so that I can bind them, then I am all set for graduation *woop woop*. This is awesome, can’t wait to be done and say adiós to masters. It looked like such a difficult milestone to achieve, but it isn’t after all. With God everything is possible, I mean this is those tiny peanuts to him. Even though it looks like a mountain to us…lol

THANKING

My colleagues. We had this event called Infinite Possibilities that we were organising and in my books it was such a successful premier event. It will be happening every first Thursday of the month (next one being on 4th July 2013 at Westgate Theatre and it’s free). Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/InfinitePossibilitiesEvent and Twitter: https://twitter.com/ip_event (or @ip_event). Tell a friend, tag a friend along, recommend a friend, who you think their real African Story would inspire us or would be inspired by this event. Let’s make this a big deal like it is.

Love

Thank God It’s Friday!

WATCHING

Assault on Wall Street, that movie was just sad *to tears* and my baby sister recommended it O_O. I am pretty sure if we were watching it together we’d make fun of each other depending on who gets teary first. The signs are always a straight face, extreme concentration, watery eyes and then the balancing tears act which sells you out.

The movie made me really think about investment banks and insurance. You spend your youthful life saving and investing for the future in stuff like real estate, stocks, bonds and so on via brokers of these firms. Then when you need the money the most, these institutions have apparently been involved in some accounting fraud so your life savings are no more and your bills keep accumulating. Crap! It’s unbelievable. And we wonder why we have angry and murderous people in this world. These situations make you heartless. Watch it, then let me know what you think.

LOVING

My family and my boyfriend (he’s my other family). Their support is *in Kanye language*, cray! If that’s not what love is, I don’t know what love is. I see them, I see what love is about.

LISTENING TO

A bit of this and that. On shuffle with the likes Owl City, Ed Sheeran, John Legend, Lecrae, Locals, Avicii, Brad Paisely e.t.c. It’s a high-low up in here.

READING

Can you imagine, nothing! That looks really bad on me, I should pick up something this weekend. Even if it’s an e-book, now that I got a smart phone. Yeah, I had to say that somewhere. Still learning how to use it, but it sure feels good to finally own one. It’s had been long overdue.

xperia SL

Sony Xperia SL

EATING

Blueberry cup cake. I want to learn how to bake in the near future. I need to make myself some of these yummy cupcakes and such like things. I usually feel like people who bake are on a different level, it must be a warm fuzzy feeling to be able to bake a delicious spongy cake. I am officially jealous.

LOOKING FORWARD TO

Going to Meru to visit our farm next weekend. There are so many developments *read blessings* happening in our farm, I need to go and witness. Might just start organising a house-warming there soon. I could start making the guest list now, who wants in?

SAVING FOR

A get-a-way trip to “I don’t know where” and when, but it needs to happen soon.

PLANNING FOR

Our bible study. I kind of figured that you need a foundation to base your relationship. A spiritual one isn’t bad. At least you have live examples of the issues people experienced and how they dealt with them. Thank God the boyfriend shares the same vision as me, so it won’t be as difficult a project to start. To keep it consistent is the challenge but why not cross the bridge when we get there.

It’s so easy to get bored of bible stuff, I don’t know why. Or feel ashamed to read it, but I think it holds so much information, knowledge and wisdom that we keep searching in all other wrong places. Let’s see how that goes.

THANKING

My dad! He’s that guy. The best dad I could ever ask for. We’ve had our moments when growing up, you know kids and the parents…drama galore, ours is no exemption. The sky-high expectations, the immense pressure, the disagreements  the lectures, the lessons, but if it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be where I am today. He’s my ideal definition of love. It’s selfless. He loves me because I’m me, his daughter. He’s shown me a good example of what a dad should be. I will always make sure that he has every reason to smile and be happy. God bless him with his hearts desires.

WATCHING

Hi, I am a certified ‘Movie maniac’.  Really looking forward to Fast and Furious, Crood and Scandal Ssn 21 (and stolen moments to watch 18-20, I hear things went bananas). Currently, I’ve watched like all the movies that are out true story, but Safe Haven  made me balance a tear two.

LOVING

The fact that I am actually done with grad school. It hasn’t hit me yet. I’m sure when I find myself idle in the evenings and starting to think of something else to enroll in, I will know it has.

LISTENING TO

A little of Colbie Caillat, Sara Bareilles, Pink, Adam Lambers, Jason Mraz, the Fray and the Script … they’re all just so mush.

READING

Was given a book to review and it has my first name in it “Chasing Mercy“, that’s what I’ll be on. Do you have any recommendations now that I am free to read?

EATING

Alden Chocolates. Heaven sent. You know you feel unhealthy when you eat chocolates, this is health in a pack.

LOOKING FORWARD TO

My graduation. I told you I’ll make that speech *woop woop*. I asked and it has been given.

SAVING FOR

A smart phone (can you imagine I don’t have one, still holding on to my E63 5years later) among other things.

PLANNING FOR

I need a trip out of town NOW. I haven’t started planning yet, but I need to.

THANKING

God for the strength and wisdom to do my thesis and pass it *excitoz*. My family for the financial and unbeatable moral support (the calls to as whether I’ve gotten home, if I’m doing my project, or eaten dinner…lol). My boyfriend for the crazy support including rehearsals of my final defence, the pick-me ups and drop-me’s and the time (I was in class the time we could be having dates…though we pushed them for after class). My friends, for the motivation to finish school by asking me “when I’ll finish or why I’m always in school”. It’s not easy but we made it through. Congratulations.

Friday Fives

Thank God It’s Friday! A little tweaking here and there makes the blog worth visiting no? Hey my Friday people’s *waves*. Just figured I could be having blog friends that come to check our what I have on Friday’s, so it’s only nice if I said hey!

1. Oopsies!

One of those days I was completely overcome by a bout of sleep. You know the one that forcefully befalls you right after you are done with a heavy meal.

Sleepy Head

Others call it “itis” and for sure, it is! Then of course as long as you’re not on your bed, you’re not safe. A colleague took a pic of me and posted it on my mail. That would suffice for blackmail, especially the part they say I was drooling O_O. We harbor Paparazzi’s here.

2. Weekly Crackers

I randomly took him for dinner. He was happy and that’s a yaaaay on my part. Let the good times roll.

My dad, Clara (baby sister) and I pulled a suprise for my mum. Got for her a “gift” or rather a replacement of a treasured item she had broken. Ever heard of a bio disc? Check the link. She even did the purchases because she’s a member and she was still clueless that it’s hers. Super star surpriser (dial +254 72x xxxxxx for bookings). Let’s just say my dad scored like +100,000 points for this since he’s not the kind to pull surprises or buy gifts. However for dads out there like them, this is one of the many kids roles and responsibilities. To be accomplices in such undercover plans.

3. Faves and Craves

Thinking dresses and a nice pair of heels to complete the look. Too full to think anything food. I’m that girl who has never worn a dress to the office, I know, judge me now. I’m also judging myself as I write. Never really thought into it before. Yikes! That’s so not lady like.

My colleague was saying if she had a small body like mine, she will be on those dresses like crazy. Here I’m thinking, “who’s going to shop for them.” Jeez! Maybe I’m really wasting myself. I should start budgeting and looking for time and people to take me to buy them. I think they’d look stunning on me.

4. Stupendous Snippet

How important first steps can be. Just the process of lifting up the foot forward and stepping down and doing that over and over again, literally. For a baby isn’t that one of the most important things in child development, I suppose. The excitement in the parents faces in their child taken their first step or the disappointment when the kid takes forever to start walking says it all. Plus, there must be some comfort in crawling. I guess I can say that because I was once a baby, but let me not kid you, I can’t remember.

The same way we look at kids with so much hope and excitement in their first step is the the same way other people look up to us in making our first step. It could be our parents, partners, lecturers, friends, employers and so on. So in as much as the crawling is comfortable (where we don’t make effort, we’re just there), it’s about time we took the first step in. Yeah, in that which crossed your mind or that which you thought of while reading this.

Don’t worry about resources, the strength, the amount of work that’s in it for you or the distance that you have to cover. You’ll deal with that along the way. Most of what matters is taking that first step.

5. T.G.I.F Inspiration

With the weekend coming on, a holiday that was to be is getting wasted *frowns*. 20th October 2012 falls on Saturday and it’s getting eaten up by the weekend monster, just like that. That being besides the point, as usual definitely have a kick ass weekend even if you spend it sleeping and reading like me. To living, laughing and loving more.
