This Year…

There’s some internal inexplicable excitement that comes with publishing a new post on a New Month, better yet a New Year. Ask any blogger. However, sometimes trying to figure out what to write about can be brutally taxing or you can even know what you want to write about but you’re unable to put it into context. Problems. Makes me think of more money, more problems. In this case, more ideas, more problems.

I had an amazing “jumping of the year” time. We actually didn’t have a solid plan so to say, because we were both working on the eve. The least we knew is that if all else fails, we have each other to entertain. But nothing failed. We started with going for dinner and as we made our orders, our friends coincidentally were also coming to have dinner at the same place. The more the merrier, we ate, chatted, laughed, damn! The food at Peppers is annoyingly delicious and overly satisfying. Then after that, it was to dance the night away and have a good time. The Kenyans who weren’t at the Coast or Naivasha, were at K1. It was amaze-balls. Good music, good people, lots of dancing (those who know me, know that I barely sit when at the club). For me, it was the perfect end to the year and start of another. Thanking God for the good time and asking him to bless 2014.

The following day, we got to spend it with my folks and the baby sister. I had really missed them because they had gone upcountry for the Christmas holiday without me (due to work). Nothing beats catching up with them, that feeling, that feeling is contentful, or if there’s no word like that, satisfying on the extreme. Just seeing them happy, makes my heart glow. Anyhow, as I was doing my random internet rounds, look what I stumbled upon. A fun way of setting goals for the year, quite plain and simple. At least it doesn’t have you racking your brains.

A bad habit I’m going to break: Snoozing – I get lazy to wake up early even when I’ve run out of sleep. I’d rather just close my eyes and imagine myself asleep.

A new skill I’d like to learn: Bake. I’d love to bake those delish cupcakes and spongy cakes. I really would.

A person I hope to be more like: Let me do me. I still have so much potential to be a better me. I haven’t played my best version yet.

A good deed I’m going to do: Give back to my parents. Not pay back, just give back, I can never pay back. It’s immeasurable . The much they’ve done for me, they will always more than deserve it.

A place I’d like to visit: South Africa – Table Mountains and Sun City. I got there but I did a half-baked trip. I didn’t manage to go to all the beautiful places. Closer home – Turtle Bay at Watamu.

A book I’d like to read: Any book written by Richard Branson. Perhaps I could start with “Screw It – Let’s Do it”. I feel mature enough to read his books now. Did anyone else feel like that? Like Branson was coming to hard and you were not ready? I did, but now I want to go for it and I need some motivation.

A letter I’m going to write: To the mister. I will, sometime. I haven’t done that yet so it’ll be a good first. Plus, with all these technology, there’s something about hand written stuff. I’m always curious about people’s handwriting’s.

A new food I’d like to try: I have never done sea food. I secretly would like to try it, though I cringe at the thought of it. How do guys feed those slimy things? “Molluscs (octopus and shellfish), crustaceans (shrimp and lobster), echinoderms (sea cucumber and sea urchins)” -> Eek! They remind me of my high-school biology, those classifications and terms make them sound inedible.

I’m going to do better at: Keeping my word. I say much (to myself and to others), I’d like to do just as much. Even those things that I say and I’m not able to do for one reason or another, I’d still want to have it in my to-do list and strive towards keeping my word.

You could also try it out and share. Feels like an easier and more fun way to almost summarize things that occupy your mind. List to this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCaNfQry8GU. Have a lovely day and I wish you the best.

My 5 Links

Jeez! Who thought this will be the hardest activity of all times? I can barely remember half the things I’ve written … and maybe when I writing I was going through something and right now I don’t really want to revisit it, or someone to read it and think … hmmm! *scratches head*… @Egichomo why did you ask for just 5 links and the way I have way over 100? I wish it was listing a couple of them under the 5 categories :p . Thanks for the tag @Mwirigi

Okay, let me try and see if I can do this *going down memory lane* and on to my 5 links:

My Most Popular Post : TGIF

That will be the TGIF posts, couldn’t choose one in particular. The initiator was @Nkirdizzle. I love TGIF posts because they’re structured and I am basically saying in not so many words the mischief I’m up to over the weekend, what I’m feeling and funny enough it gets guys reading *every Friday* —> Either guys are idle, looking forward to the weekend or something, but that’s the day I get my highest hits :p

Post that Didn’t Get The Attention It Deserved : Licensed to Pan

Sometimes I do get bored and as a ritual when I cook (since I’m eating alone), I serve and take a pic before taking the first bite. Of course, if there’s someone else I wouldn’t think of doing that… that’s such a queer habit, yah *don’t answer*… so one day I thought, why not make a post of all the meals and why I like them —> More like my first own pics post. Attention?  Not so sure it got as much.

Post Whose Success Surprised Me : The Powe of Tissue Paper

Hehe this post was so random, I just thought of the life of a tissue paper … and funny enough people liked it, I didn’t even expect people to read it to the end.

My Most Controversial Post : She’s not that into you

This post has gotten me in trouble because some people *points fingers to them* have read it and thought, hmmm! she’s done that to me, so she’s definitely not into me. And what I meant to say was, it means she’s not into you in that way … yeah thaaat way … but you could probably make a good friend, if that makes it sound any better … lol

Post I Am Most Proud Of : The Elusive

That would be the very first post I did. The day I got the courage to start up a blog, it’s the first thing I had to write … clearly we now know that I’m such a typical girl *not* … lol

As I pass #My5Links? to my blog mates, sharing is caring :) Enjoy pondering your blog and coming up with thee 5 links.

Saying Out Loud!

It’s so amazing that people get to read my blog and considering it’s the internet, anyone from anywhere can. Where am I getting with this … I have a reader in India. Like really, how cool is that? I wish there was a way that, maybe once a year, bloggers from different countries could have a conference kinda thing where, they meet and interact.

So, Miss. Prathima Gangadhar tagged me in a post “Knock Knock -Surprise“, that asks you to write 7 random facts about you! Plus you get yourself an award’ish … I think she’s pretty cool and I can relate to her posts, check out her blog, “prathi-says“.

So here goes, 7 VERY random facts about me … Things I have never said out loud, but maybe defines me right about now and in case you see me doing some of this stuff, “Thou Shalt NOT Judge“.

  1. I like drinking my tea with a tea-spoon inside the mug … psychologically, it makes the tea taste better for me!
  2. I cut my chapati’s into small pieces and mix it with food while eating, it just makes it easier to eat!
  3. I eat chicken to the bone, even the cartilage, that white thing at the joints. I love chicken!
  4. I don’t know how to ask for major stuff, or rather I find it difficult e.g cash, leave, saying I can’t do something … but for irrelevant things like food, quite easy!
  5. I was never out of love, I just needed some reality checks to know what I really want … now I do and I have you :)
  6. I don’t like dirt. I’m a mini – clean freak sometimes, then I get lazy!
  7. Music speaks to me … loads!

Now to do the honors!

To just but a few bloggers I follow, cool people I must say! —-> Say the 7 most random thing that you have not said a loud yet.

20 Questions to ask yourself every Sunday

So as I was reading @Nkirdizzle’s blog, as usual she has the most amazing stuff that will get you to juggle your head for a bit. I came across one of her posts that has this, “20 questions one should ask themselves every sunday”. Well, it wasn’t Sunday, but I sure can take myself back and I thought I should try it out … It’s like therapy, makes me notice how much I’ve been lazing around *bad, bad, bad girl*.

He he, this pic is funny!

What did I learn last week?

  • Being paranoid could sometimes be the best way to avoid an oncoming problem.
  • Family is important; they know you more than anyone else would.
  • Positivity makes everything seem better and is emotionally needed to deal with life.

What was my greatest accomplishment over the past week?

  • Good question! Keeping up with the pressures of life could be classified as a weekly accomplishment yah?

Which moment from last week was the most memorable, and why?

  • That would be the beginning of last week. Because I made an unsaid promise to myself and to someone else :p

What is the 1 thing I need to accomplish this week?

  • School, school, school, I need to gather all the psyche I need to apply for my masters…Jeez!

What can I do right now to make the week less stressful?

  • Search, Identify and Apply!

What have I struggled with in the past that might also affect the upcoming week?

  • Sleep! I need to get insomnia. I’ll blame it on the cold for now, but I think I love my sleep a bit too much.

What was last week’s biggest time sink?

  • Procrastination enough said!

Am I carrying excess baggage into the week that can be dropped?

  • None really! Funny enough I have the least baggage in my life right now, I just hope I keep that trend.

What have I been avoiding that needs to get done?

  • My postgraduate diploma Project! Like seriously, I need to get over and done with it.

What opportunities are still on the table?

  • I believe they are many; I’m just not creating room for them. Which is just wrong all together, so something’s got to give!

Is there anyone I’ve been meaning to talk to?

  • I don’t think so, at least as per now.

Is there anyone that deserves a big thank you?

  • I say thank you when I need to, and I keep saying when I have the opportunity to, but my folks do deserve a BIG one.

How can I help someone else this coming week?

  • I’m trying to be of help where possible.

What are my top 3 goals for the next 3 years?

  • To complete my Masters degree
  • To exponentially grow in my career
  • To be completely stable; this includes relationship-wise and financial-wise

Have any of my recent actions led me to closer to my goals?

  • I think so and then again I haven’t tried hard enough. Jeez this is like a therapy of sorts it seems…yikes!

What is the next step for each goal?

  • Look for a school and apply
  • Work smart, in a way that’s going to contribute to my career growth
  • As for the other, I’m not doing bad so far :p

What am I looking forward to during the upcoming week?

  • Ummmm! This is bad … but in case of anything, it’s got to be something good.

What are my fears?

  • My efforts to go unnoticed by the relevant people
  • Not achieving what I would want to achieve (does that make sense? at least in my head it does.)

What am I most grateful for?

  • Everything that I am today, and for the people who have played a role in it … I am grateful.

If I knew I only had one week to live, who would I spend my time with?

  • This is a familiar question. If I knew I only had one week to live, I would call my family and friends and let them know, then I will spend time with whoever wants to spend time with me :)

Maybe you should try it out too!

Blogging101: 10 Lessons Learnt

Blogging for me started as a joke. Let’s say, peer pressure from friends who thought that I should share my thoughts with others in form of writing. It was very random, to the extent that we came up with the name over lunch. Anyway, my confidence to write was at Zero or worse yet negative. I will completely blame my English teachers all through my 8.4.4 that made me think I can’t write. Nowadays, blogging is one of my favorite hobbies. Mainly because no-one forces me to use similes or proverbs or a start or ending to a story for me to continue. That sucked big time! It made me hate compositions and languages, too many rules!

So @mrsmwiti tagged me. First let me do a happy dance, because she tagged me. You know those guys who are your *digital* undercover role models, but I’m not saying it out loud.

10 is many, but here goes what my I feel would be my “Blogging101” would contain since I started blogging a year ago *whoop whoop*. I feel a bit achieved.

1. Be Yourself !

A blog is like a friend, the way you would explain to a friend something or tell a tale, is the same way your blog should. It’s a conversation with imaginary people who will either respond by commenting or not. They’ll just laugh and brush it off. Like what you’ve just done.

2. Keep it short and precise, if long make it *mango* juicy!

Don’t say too much because then someone gets bored trying to figure out what the blog is about. However if it’s long add some yumminess into it … like they say “add salt and spice”. Somehow it makes someone be glued to the post, such that, if they leave it in the middle, they will want to come finish it up or they’ll even bookmark it.

3. Images make all the difference!

I’m those kids who used to read a book or even the newspaper because of the images. They say a picture is worth a thousand words … in my world it sure is.

4. WYSIWYGWhat You See Is What You Get”!

Format, Design, Theme and Colors : The human eye is designed in such a way if this three are off, then your brain zones off as well. You will just not enjoy.

Format – Should be neat, readable font and well paragraphed – good format implies organized person.

Design –  Should be clean, clear and not cluttered. If cluttered it will make reading boring.

Theme and color – They go together *like rice and chicken stew*, get a theme that says “this is me”. if you know what I mean.

5. Would I read what I write?

Yeah, sometimes I go back and try to entertain myself with my previous blogs or just see what I wrote in a particular situation. If I can’t read it over again, then there’s a problem.

6. Make it ERUPT *Easy to Read, Understand, Perceive and Trigger

Just as it is. I think when someone blogs they should make it Easy;

To read – this could be through the language used, the font size and color, format as mentioned earlier.

To Understand – Avoid jargon, unless you’re an actual expert *pun intended* writing for actual experts *pun intended again*. Otherwise keep it simple.

To perceive – with a blog, people should be able to understand what you’re talking or better yet writing about, by creating a mental picture.

To trigger – More like to evoke the feelings from your post. Whatever it was about, there should be some reaction you want to trigger. Right?

7. Break Open

This is important, you need to break open your cocoon and let your blog be displayed so that others know you, how you write, your style. It kind of gives you a sense of belonging and when you write, even without looking at who the author is, the readers can know it’s you.

8. Read what others write

Read, read, read! I mean you don’t expect people to be reading what you write while you don’t read theirs. Don’t be stingy with your eyes, even with the least time, one blog a day or week can suffice. They give you pointers sometimes and get you to have an open mind topped up with some extra knowledge since different bloggers write about different things. Basically, you become diverse.

9. It’s never that serious

It’s a blog for pits sake, it’s not an exam or a test or a personal diary, it’s just a blog. A place where you can give your own opinions without interruptions unlike when you’re speaking (entirely my thought!).

Keep your personal life and your blog in two separate places otherwise, blogging will become a task, then at some point a burden, which will eventually make your life miserable .

10. Express yourself, It’s all yours!

You choose what you want to write. Go ahead and do it without fear nor favor as long as you’re not stepping on anyone’s toes. For me, blogging is kind of therapeutic, it makes me feel really good especially once I click “Publish”. I know that’s pretty weird, but don’t mind me.

8 Facts About Me *Randomites*

Oh well, today I woke up and decided since the sun has been shinning, I shall wear a skirt…Gosh aren’t my legs freezing. This sun is playing hide and seek because the day I decide to wear heavy stuff is when it gladly shines and emits some skin burning heat. Damn you sun!

So anyway, it’s about time I got with the program. Was doing my usual visiting of my sizz’s blog Joliea *okay that sound’s so nun’ish* lol but yeah, she’s like my sizz because we share many alike views and she’s my guaranteed reader…haha #ifyouknowwhatimean

Here goes:

All I need is ONE WORD and an IMAGE to come up with a blog post. Yeah I’m just weird like that, I can be so clueless on what to write and I just get one word and build on it.

I love FOOD like real food… Well prepared Chicken is my weakness. I can eat it with anything fries, Rice, Ugali. I love greens as well. The only junk I love is KIT KAT‘s.

I speak in PARABLES, I have to use to use objects to explain my thoughts, if you read my posts you will understand, I use primary, secondary and tertiary colors to come up with black and white #IfYouKnowWhatIMean … In short, I beat around the bush.

I never take time to think of what I’m going to WEAR because chances are that I won’t wear that. I just finish showering and stare at my closet and pick clothes and try to see if it looks good. Then I have to ask my Mum or Sister or sometimes even my Dad how I look…it’s called affirming, can’t stand looking like a clown.

I love SHOES but I can never make myself suffer by wearing stiletto’s or 6-inch heels and struggle walking around town with them to please men. I’ll wear them when I start driving and all I have to do is walk from parking to venue and from venue to parking. Otherwise I shall remain stylish with my flat shoes and sometimes my jelly flats — {Just Understand unless you are buying me a car, or chauffering me around}

I have only ONE SISTER who I think is the coolest ever, I thank God for her every other time and love her to bits. I look at her and see the reflection of the younger me that I was, just waaaay cooler and knows too much for her age.

I LOVE, LAUGH and LIVE – I Love my family and friends (I’m very bad at keeping in touch, but when I meet them I do let them know I love them, miss them and I’m happy they are part of my life) … I Laugh with them, since I’ll look insane laughing with myself (although sometimes  I do when I’m making funny faces on the mirror and pretending to have conversations with my alter ego…haha) … and I Live my life to the fullest (make wrong and right decisions, take risks, tackle issues, enjoy happy and fun moments).

I’m a TYPICAL GIRL with my sometimes moments … refer to this post *SOMETIMES* you’ll get what I’m mean.

Haha those are my 8 randomites about me…there’s much more just I ‘ve gotta stick to the chain. So let me get on to the tagging. Would like to hear from this bloggers:

If not tagged and you wanna do, I can add tags you know *wink*. Get with the program :)
